Renowned chef Pierre Gagnaire speaks through flavour. His expressive culinary legacy is at the heart of famed One Michelin Starred-French restaurant in Shanghai, Gagnaire’s first in Mainland China. Le Comptoir’s interiors are based on a Parisian salon and inspired by the old-world glamour of Shanghai during the 1930s. On the menu you\'ll find seasonal French cuisine with a contemporary twist, cooked by Gagnaire\'s protégé Romain Chapel, son of the legendary French chef Alain Chapel, whose focus is on quality, local ingredients and the reinterpretation of traditional French cooking. The cooking shows finesse, but tastes effortless and approachable, and the kitchen and the front of house work together to bring things down to an unassuming pitch. The level of antithesis found throughout Le Comptoir is fascinating: French vs. global, traditional vs. modern, bistro-style cooking against gleaming silverware, casual vibe among starched white tablecloths. But despite these contrasts – and sometimes because of them – Le Comptoir does exceptional comfortable refinement, better than possibly anywhere else in town.
